Step by step set up guide
After your FutureNow modules have been installed by a skilled electrician
download the app from the following link in the App Store
Start the app.
It will say „No device detected or authorized on the network!”
If you don’t have FutureNow modules enable demo mode in menu/more and skip step 1.
1. Adding FutureNow modules
Go to the Device Setup in the Menu. Tap the plus sign in the top right corner of the screen to see available modules on the network. The modules found on the network are listed by MAC address.
Choose the modules one by one to add them to your app. Each module has to be authenticated before it adds to the system. Use the username and password combination that has been set through the modules websites. (default username:admin, default password:futurenow)
The authorized modules will be listed by type and MAC address on the Modules page and will disappear from the list of the available modules.
2. Setting up input/output devices
After the modules have been added, the devices attached to the inputs and outputs can be configured.
The available outputs and inputs will be listed if you tap on a module's MAC address. All available outputs and inputs will be shown. Tapping on an output or input opens the output/input configuration screen. Here the output/inputs can be renamed. For example „Living Room Floor Lamp” or „Hall motion detector”. You can also change the icon (by tapping on it) to one that suits best the type of the device.
If you want to be notified when a device turns on/off or a sensor becomes active, check „Notify me”.
In the case of relay switch outputs the following settings are available:
Device name: Enter a name for the device.
Icon: Assign an icon from the icons list.
Notify me: If enabled, a pop up window will appear whenever the device turns on or off. Group headers (see later) will be highlighted regardless of this setting, if one or more outputs in the group is/are on.
Invert relay: Used if the load is attached between the C and NC contacts of the output relay. It will be off if the relay is activated and on if the relay is dropped. Mostly for devices that are on most of the time.
In the case of dimmer outputs the following settings are available:
Device name: Enter a name for the device.
Icon: Assign an icon from the icons list.
Notify me: If enabled, a pop up window will appear whenever the device turns on or off. Group headers (see later) will be highlighted regardless of this setting, if one or more outputs in the group is/are on.
Enable dimming: If it’s turned off the output can’t be dimmed. It just turns on/off. That is the default setting. Leave this setting turned off when used with non-dimmable loads.
Dimming non-dimmable loads may damage both the load and the dimmer!
In the case of window covering control module outputs the following settings are available:
Device name: Enter a name for the device.
Icon: Assign an icon from the icons list.
Notify me: If enabled, a pop up window will appear whenever the device turns on or off. Group headers (see later) will always be highlighted, regardless of this setting, if one or more outputs in the group is/are on.
The input settings are the same for all module types:
Device name: Enter a name for the device.
Icon: Assign an icon from the icons list.
Notify me: If enabled, a pop up window will appear whenever the device becomes active or inactive. Group headers (see later) will always be highlighted regardless of this setting, if one or more inputs in the group is/are active.
Contact Alarm State: Determines which state of the digital input is considered active: closed or open.
3. Groups
Groups are used to show the status of multiple devices or turn them all on or off at once. You can put devices that are in the same room or floor in the same group to control them together. Devices with the same functionality can also be grouped together.
Creating Groups
Open the Groups menu
Tap on the „+” sign.
The following properties can be configured:
Group Name: Enter a name for the group
Type: Determines if the group has outputs or inputs. Inputs and outputs can not be mixed in a group.
Enable master switch: Enables the master switch on group control screen for turning all devices in the group on/off at once.
Window Shading Control Master On: Determines in which direction the shade outputs in the group will go if the master on button is tapped. Choose „N/A” if they shouldn’t move.
Window Shading Control Master Off: Determines in which direction the shade outputs in the group will go if the master off button is tapped. Choose „N/A” if they shouldn’t move.
Add devices to groups
Double-tap on the group you want to add devices to.
Tap on Devices. The list of all authorized modules will show up. Expanding the modules by tapping on them makes the inputs (input groups) or outputs (output groups) visible.
Enable all inputs/outputs you want to add to the group.
4. Scenes
Scenes are used to set multiple devices to preset states with a single tap of a button. Create different scenes for different moods or events. One for party another for bedtime.
Creating scenes
Tap on the „+” sign.
Set the name and choose a background color.
Add devices to the scene and set their desired status. On/off/dim level for dimmer outputs. Slow ramps and monostable on (turning off after a while) are also possible both with adjustable times.
You can also set the desired status of devices by tapping on the gear icon next to them on the scene activation screen.
On/off for relay switch outputs. It is possible to set how long the output will stay on. The output will automatically turn off when the time expires.
This time, along with the slow ramp and monostable on times for the dimmer module outputs is stored in the modules. This means that the delayed commands will execute even if the iOS device gets out of range of WiFi or gets disconnected from the network for any other reason while the timer is running.
Position for window coverings.
Quick Scene buttons
Up to three quick scene buttons can be added to the home screen which can be activated without having to go back to the scene menu. Use them for scenes that are most frequently used or more important for you. The quick scenes can be configured in menu/More/Scene Shortcut.
Turn on „Scene Shortcuts” to enable the quick buttons. You can select a scene for each quick button. Choosing (No Scene) will delete the scene from the appropriate button. Buttons with no scenes will not show up.
After all the configuration steps have been done it’s recommended to lock configuration. It prevents inadvertent changes to your system.
5. Controlling devices
Controlling devices individually
Choose Groups on the main page or from the menu. The list of groups will appear. Tapping on each group expands the group, making all devices in the group visible. You can scroll down if there are too many devices to fit on the screen. Multiple groups can be expanded at the same time.
Single tap on a device will toggle the device. A relay switch output will turn on if it was off and vica versa. The icon will change to the highlighted one when the device turns on. The group header also gets highlighted, indicating that at least one device in the group is on. It will stay highlighted until all devices in the group are turned off. This way you can easily check -even if the groups are collapsed- if any of your devices are left on.
Dimmer outputs can also be turned on/off by single tapping. If dimming is enabled for the output (in devices setup) dimmer outputs ramp up to their on level using the default ramp rate. The on level is either the last dim level or the preset level set via the module’s website. The default ramp rate can also be changed there.
Dimmer outputs can also be dimmed with a slider that comes up when a dimmable device is double-tapped. (dimming must be enabled for the device in device setup.)
Window covering control outputs will toggle through open-stop-close-stop cycle when single tapped. Double tapping them brings up discrete open, close and stop buttons.
Controlling all devices in a group at once
Go to group screen from the home page or through the menu. Tap on the master on or master off button on a group header to turn all devices in the group on or off at once.
Status feedback - real two way operation
The status of the icons always show the real status of devices. They get highlighted when a device is turned on from other iOS apps or a controller or through the modules website or manually using a wall switch.
Activating scenes
Go to scenes from the main screen or through the menu. Tap the activate button of the scene you want to execute.
The quick scenes can be executed directly by tapping the quick scene buttons on the home screen.
6. Backing up, restoring and sharing configuration
You can make a back up of your configuration in menu/More/Backup Now.
Earlier backups can be restored or emailed in More/Restore/Share Backup.
Configuration can also be reset in More Settings.
7. Editing Groups/Scenes
Double tapping a group header allows the user to edit the group. This works whether the group view is collapsed or expanded. Double tapping on the group again quits editing mode.
Reordering Devices/Group/Scenes
Tap and hold devices then drag them up/down to the new position.
Double tap on groups/scenes then tap on the up/down arrow to move them one position up/down. Repeat this until the group/scene is in the desired position. Double tap on the group/scene to quit editing mode.
8. Replacing modules
Hardware modules can be replaced in the way that all the output and input settings, group and scene assignments and settings are kept and applied to the new hardware automatically. You don’t need to bother applying the very same settings the replaced module had to the new module. It will all be done for you. Enable dimming is the only exception. Obviously a module can only be replaced with the same module type.
The step of module replacement:
After the old hardware has been removed and the new one is connected and set up in the exact same way as the old one was by a skilled electrician and IT expert, add and authorize the replacement (new) module as in the first step of this guide. Find it in the module list and tap on it. All the modules of the same type that were previously included in groups and scenes but are no longer found, will be shown. Tap on the one you want to replace (old module that is to be replaced.)
9. Demo mode
If you don’t (yet) have FutureNow modules you can still test the app by enabling demo mode in the More menu. One virtual module of each module type is available for you. Most functions are available in the demo mode except the ones that involve timing.
